Jim Carrey stars in one of the most highly anticipated movies of the holiday season as Mr. Grinch himself in the adaptation of Dr. Suess's, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The familiar story of the infamous villain who loves to hate Christmas is brought to the big screen along with the characters of Whoville and Cindy Lou Who, played by an adorable Taylor Momsen.
Set in the magical town of Whoville, director Howard adds to the traditional story line bringing in a cast of new characters such as the arrogant mayor (Tambor), the parents of Cindy Lou Who (Bill Irwin and Molly Shannon), and Martha May, (Baranski), Whoville's version of Martha Stewart and the object of any affection the Grinch might let slip. New plot twists explains why the Grinch came to hate Christmas and follows little Cindy as she is determined to help the Grinch find his Christmas spirit and, in turn, help all Whoville's remember what Christmas is really about.
Carrey dominates the movie with his signature comedic antics and any scene he isn't in just seems to move a little slower. Movie buffs will appreciate the parodies and inside jokes, awesome character make-up and Wizard of Oz-esque set design. Bringing in 55.1 million dollars opening weekend, making it the fifth largest opening ever, The Grinch is sure to become a traditional holiday favorite among kids and adults alike. | |
