After her mother's death in a horrible accident, a suburban girl named Sarah (Julia Stiles) moves to Chicago's south side to live with her father and is consequently required to adapt to a very different way of life. Finding comfort in ballet dancing, she quickly works up a relationship with an African American hip-hop performer named Derrick(Sean Patrick Thomas). Soon, their shared interest for dance turns into feelings for each other, but even in 2001, interracial affairs can still have misgivings in the public eye. A little bit, Dangerous Minds and a little bit, Center Stage—the movie’s plot tries to help the audience see the continual battles between good and evil, love and perseverance; combining a good hip hop soundtrack and an interesting mix of cast members. | |
