Who would have guessed that the Giants and the Ravens would be meeting in the Super Bowl? If you asked me pre-season you would've gotten the Ravens and the Rams, but most people thought I was nuts for picking the Ravens. You would've thought I was even crazier to pick the Giants. But here were are , Baltimore and New York , so let's play ball!
This is talked up to be a non-event. Nobody is quite sure who is going to win, only sure that this game will be decided on defense. The Ravens, during the regular season, allowed the least amount of points scored against a team in a single season. And the Giants have the third rated defense in the league. I mean this is being talked up as if it will be the most boring super bowl ever. The Ravens win this one 2-0(a safety by Ray Lewis)
What about Ray Lewis? Do you hear his footsteps too? Is the media going to rip him apart mentally with all of their hounding about that pesky incident a year ago? Or is he going to play like the defensive player of the year and the leader in tackles in the NFL three out of his first five years? I think you know all the answers to these questions. Ray Lewis will kick up some turf on Sunday. And he will mean business.
I think the quarterback match-up is more exciting than the media is giving credit too. Kerry Collins, who has long been called "the choker", is one game away from a ring. And Trent Dilfer, ever since he cried mid-season after a touchdown pass that ended an awful drought, has a heart of stone and a mind of steel. This could be quite a show if these two guys can start completing passes.
The X-factors will win it. X-factor Shannon Sharpe only needs about two feet to make a catch and run it 96 yards for a touchdown. X-factor Ray Lewis will make massive plays on defense that will affect the game. X-factor Tiki Barber has a way of wriggling around for yards against tough defenses. X-factor the most heralded defense since the 1986 Chicago Bears will put a hurt on Kerry Collins. X-factor Kerry Collins throws for five touchdowns against Minnesota.
However The Ravens have the most momentum heading into this one. They have strung together 10 straight wins to get here. The last three have been against Denver, The Titans in Tennessee, and the Raiders in "the black hole" to win the AFC. The Giants have won seven straight themselves, mostly against soft defenses.
The fact of the matter is that there are one too many X-factors for the Ravens and one too few for the Giants. The Baltimore Ravens, my friends, will be your Super Bowl champions. The Ravens win 21-3. Have a safe and fun Sunday football fans! | | |
