The United States Military Academy at West Point is the oldest and arguably the most prominent military leadership school in the world, producing the like of Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and George McArthur. One year ago, we only had one cadet disciple at West Point, but knew God wanted more. My wife and I began to have cadets over every week for fun and then we would invite them to our Bible Talks. At the end of our first month, our one cadet disciple brought 15 friends to our Superbowl party.
Throughout the first half of 2000 we continued to gain momentum. West Point officially recognized the New York City Church of Christ as a club on campus, which allowed us to use classrooms for our regular Bible discussions. Not long after we baptized a woman cadet who also managed the Army’s women’s basketball team.
When school began again in August, we began the semester with a Sunday morning brunch and Bible study. In preparation we rented a conference room at the hotel on campus and prayed for God to give us a huge victory. Amazingly, our two cadet disciples had over 80 visitors. Our one woman cadet disciple continued to inspire us as she brought 30 cadet visitors to the New York Church of Christ Women’s Day! (We had to rent a bus!)
The West Point ministry stands as a testimony to what God can do with just one person. At this year’s Superbowl party we had 44 visitors and we recently baptized our third cadet. Please pray for the ministry here at West Point. We are excited to see what God will do the rest of 2001.
