Got Gratitude?--Brazilian Students Remind us How Good We've Got It Monday, November 11, 2002
The following are statements from students enrolled in a HOPE worldwide--Brazil literacy program.
"My name is Lenilton Santos de Oliveira. I am 22 years old and have been studying at HOPE's equivalency course Grow! for a year and a half now. When I first began in 2001, I couldn't read or write. I only recognized a few letters. I became literate in 2001 and now am taking elementary school courses. My goal is to finish my high school equivalency courses in 2003 and even take some other courses. HOPE has given me the vision that I can become someone in the future. I am very grateful for the work of the teachers and the encouragement that I have received. Thank you!"
"My name is Wanderson Pereira Trindade. I am 25 years old and didn't become literate until 2000. Now I am taking classes for elementary school courses and have great chances of passing my final exams at the end of the year. I hope to finish high school courses in 2003. It's been incredible for me to be able to read, write and study the Bible with my friends. I am very grateful for the help that I have received from the teachers at HOPE's equivalent program, Grow! Being able to read and write and acquire more knowledge enables me to one day go to college. Thank you!"
"My name is Adolfo Gonçalves de Souza and I'm 25 years old. I began HOPE's equivalency course, Grow!, last year. Even though I had discontinued my studies for many years, I have been able to follow the classes and I expect to complete grade school this year and start my high school equivalency next year. The most important thing is that I won't have to study for many years as in a regular school. HOPE's course has given me the possibility of finishing my studies in only two years which allows me to make good use of my time in other courses such as computer training. This way, I'll have more opportunities in the job market. At the moment I work in construction, but now I believe that I can achieve something better. God has really blessed my life! Thank you."
"My name is Vera Lucia Gonçalves dos Santos. I'm 40 years old and haven't studied for over 20 years. I began the HOPE's equivelency course Grow! in August 2001. I studied hard and passed my exams for grade school by the end of that year. Now I'm taking high school courses and have the very real possibility of passing several subjects at the end of this year. I hope to finish the course in 2003. I am so grateful for the teacher's patience and unique way of studying with us. Thank you!" |
