It was a Sunday night, a dinner date, the end of a long, hectic weekend. The plan was have a brief date and just go to dinner, though she didn't know where. Eventually she found out that we were going to "Dine With Shamu" at Sea World, her very favorite place. With a car trailing us filming the whole thing, we set out for Sea World.
Upon arrival, we walked towards Shamu Stadium. A disciple named Robin works there, and we were going to "see if he was there". Robin and I had worked out the plan a few weeks before. With both of our families and some close friends hiding in the wings, videotape rolling, we walked into the Shamu Stadium to go pet Shamu with the help of Robin in between shows. For years, Brooke has been fascinated with killer whales so to pet Shamu was a dream come true. I had to remind her that I was there!! Robin taught her how to give certain signals to Shamu, and he would respond. One of the signals backfired, and Shamu sprayed us with water - tons of it! We were soaked! She got the signal right and it sent Shamu to get her toy ball (weighing about 40 pounds). Shamu brought the ball over, Robin walked away and I moved the ball around to reveal the writing: b, will you marry me? love m. She was stunned, I got down on my knee, she said yes! Everyone came out cheering, the workers at Sea World applauded, Shamu did flips all over the pool and even posed for us at the end! We all went to dinner that night and then an engagement party with tons of friends. When she got home that night, set up in her room was a TV & VCR with a video of the night! It was the most perfect day... | |
