Long Distance Love Brought Close Edward Tu - Tuesday, February 11, 2003
In July 1999, I traveled from Vancouver to visit the church in Los Angeles; while I was there, I met Diem Han at a teen fund-raiser. We later exchanged emails, but I really thought nothing of it since I exchange emails with many disciples.
Diem (pronounced "Yim") would email every so often, and in turn I would email back wanting to learn from what she saw and did down in her region. I was pretty closed to the idea of long-distance romances, but slowly, surely God moved through her to win my heart. I sought advice from various leaders in Vancouver and Los Angeles, as I believe the principle when the Scriptures say "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisors make victory sure."
We went on our first date in July 2000. I drove down with some brothers to Anaheim near where she lived. Diem served up a great dinner and took me to the water show at Disneyland. We later went for a quick prayer on Bolsa Chica beach where we sent up our dream for the year in a bottle. Little did we know that we had both written down dating each other as our dream...
In February 2001 I would ask Diem to be my girlfriend at the same beach where she said "Yes!" It was my first dating relationship in my 11 years at that point as a disciple. I asked her if she would consider moving up to Vancouver, Canada. She moved up in February 2002 after graduating from Cal State Fullerton.
In July 2002 near the waters of Deep Cove in North Vancouver, I asked Diem to marry me, and she said "Yes!" with joyful tears. God is gracious to me. We wed in Oct 2002 and now are happily married and help, alongside with the Felushkos, to lead the awesome teens ministry in Vancouver. |
