 | A Cancelled Date Leads to Love Jorge Ochoa, Los Angeles - Wednesday, February 12, 2003
It was Friday night, and my date for Saturday had been planned for a week. I called my date to remind her what time I would be picking her up and discovered she couldn't make it. I wanted to call the whole thing off because there was no way I was going to call someone on Friday night for a date the next day. The problem, however, was that we already had bought the symphony tickets, and my double was looking forward to it. I humbled out and decided to call Juana, a sister I had gone out with a few months before. I was relieved that she accepted. She later told me that she had wanted to decline, but her discipler happened to be with her when I called and encouraged her to say "yes".
The hot dogs were great, and the music and fireworks were spectacular. There were other fireworks going on that night however -- inside of me. I don't know if it was the moonlight reflecting off her face or her smile as she enjoyed the music, but she amazed me. After being a single disciple for seven years, I knew that I had found the woman for me. I sought much advice (I didn't want to blow it), and in three months we were dating. Ten months after that, Juana and I were standing before the altar exchanging wedding vows and having our first kiss with her daughter beside us.
Now three years later, God has blessed us with an incredible marriage and two wonderful daughters. At first, I didn't see his hand in all this, but now it's obvious how God orchestrated the whole thing. Proverbs 16:9 is true when it says, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." | |
