A Blind Date? On Valentine's Day? Nicole York, San Francisco - Friday, February 14, 2003
I met my husband Quentin on a blind date on Valentine's Day in 1998. I had been a Christian since 1995; he had been recently baptized that January.
At first we were both opposed to the idea of a Valentine's Day date, especially a blind date. I arrogantly insisted that a young Christian would mistake my sisterly encouragement for romantic interest. My husband felt that his newfound relationship with God wouldn't include women. Reluctantly we agreed to go on the date.
It was definitely NOT love at first site. He'd be the first to tell you that he was a thug, having grown up in some of the hardest and poorest areas in San Francisco. I, on the other hand, had no idea what a ghetto was.
Over time, our interest in each other grew. Perhaps our fondest memory of Valentine's Day is not only our first encounter but also, during a subsequent Valentine's Day, making the decision to persevere through our differences and continue to grow in our dating relationship. Our perseverance paid off, and we were married November 17, 2001! |
