| | All Latino Service, Sunday April 25th Rafael Lua - Sunday, April 25, 2004
The Latino Ministries of the LA Church of Christ celebrated a congregational service this past Sunday April 25th at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Down Town Los Angeles. Hosted by the Central Region, the service titled "God, In The Beginning" was an incredible celebration for spanish speaking brothers and sisters from all around the church as a total attendance of 1,183 people gathered together to worship God.
The highlights included an inspiring and convicting message by Alejandro Nava, lead evangelist for the Monterey Mexico Church of Christ, a moving communion talk by Dr. Jaime De Anda and great music arrangements and singing led by the Central Latino Sector band/choir. All were inspired to see each other as people came from as far as Indio (Inland Empire), the Antelope Valley Church of Christ, and even a group from the San Francisco Church of Christ was able to attend. We look forward to an even greater worship celebration for our next event planned for Sunday July 11th. All for God's Glory.
| Churchwide Family Group Leaders Meeting | | |
| | For The Glory of God Thursday, January 15, 2004 On Saturday, January 10th, 2004, the family group leaders of the entire Los Angeles Church met together for two hours to worship the Lord, study the Word, share our lives and encourage one another. The excitement grew as we saw over 1000 family group leaders stream in from the north, south, east and west and sit in chairs and on the floor. The worship service was inspiring as we sang many new songs that caused our souls to stir and eyes to shed tears of joy. The messages focused on how we as leaders can bring more glory to God.
Bruce Williams, on behalf of the elders and evangelists, thanked all the family group leaders for their spiritual leadership and support during 2003. The church has come through this time of trial, stronger and more like Jesus. We have had our challenges, but the Lord has brought us through victoriously. Ephesians 4:11-16 emphasizes the necessity of each part of the Body working together to build up the Church. In addition to the elders and evangelists, the leadership of the family group leaders is just as necessary to promote growth and vitality in the church. For that very reason, we all need to see our role in the building up of the Body of Christ. There were 4 characteristics of heart that we need to have in order for God to work through us as leaders: a servant heart, pure heart, available heart, and humble heart. These characteristics are common to many leaders in the Bible who brought glory to God through their lives.
Anthony Galang spoke about how many of our doctrines and practices have gone through a time of questioning and testing. This has also been a time of uncertainty about how we should interact with one another. He pointed out that certainly there have been things that needed to change and be repented of by everyone. But there have also been many good things that we need to hold onto. He referred to the passage in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 "Test everything. Hold on to the good." He then admonished us all with the passage in John 13:34, 35 that refers to our love for one another bringing glory to God. The emphasis of our discipling relationships needs to be described more as one with another, rather than one over another. This should foster greater and deeper friendships in those relationships where there is more openness and mutual admonition.
The brothers and sisters who shared from their lives were incredibly inspiring. It was so good to hear leaders from different walks of life who are setting great examples of bringing glory to God through their lives and leadership.
Afterwards, the fellowship was buzzing with encouragement. There were many comments like, "This really moved my soul", "the lessons were exactly what I needed", "the worship moved me to tears", "I love and am so thankful for this church", "when can we meet together again?", "my heart has been refreshed", "I'm inspired again to lead", "we need to be called higher", "2004 is going to be a great year", and "I really needed this".
We all realize that everything we have done in the past as a church has not always been "for the glory of the Lord". We are committed this year to be a year when everything we do as a church is truly for the glory of God. Our prayer is that because of this time together, every leader wants his leadership to be "for the glory of God"; that the leaders want to cultivate relationships in their family groups that are more nurtured by friendship than just assignment. We pray that, as more and more disciples grow in having servant, pure, available and humble hearts, the Lord will raise up even more to take the mantle of leadership and help build up the Body of Christ to his glory.
