"O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise..." (Psalm 8:1-2a)
Let's face it- as someone once said, life without children around would be pretty starchy! As spring is in the air, let's be refreshed by their youthful perspective, for as Jesus said, the "kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14b). Happy Spring!
*Special thanks to Arlene Pierre for her input regarding the questions to ask the children!

 | | Canadian Idol Barb Trawon - Saturday, January 31, 2004
O.K., I have a confession to make- I love to follow Canadian Idol and American Idol on T.V.; if I had a Satellite dish, I'd probably check the others, like Siberian Idol. I have even been rumoured to dial for my favourite singer with two phones at the same time. What does this say (other than the fact that I need to seriously consider obtaining a life)? Well, nothing really- except that it helps to take stock of our lives often to see if we have our own idols, since in the end we will not be facing Zack et al, or even Randy, Paula and (gasp) Simon!

 | | Taking Care of Business... Barb Trawon - Monday, November 03, 2003
"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'." (2 Corinthians 12: 9a)
Brandy Harding is no stranger to physical weaknesses and ailments. A dynamic Christian who was converted in Winnipeg in 1997 (then Brandy Kenyon!), God has used her to meet and help convert many women since her own baptism. During this time, she has had to deal with chronic pain and illness, numerous frustrating times of waiting for test results, three surgeries and sadly, a miscarriage, which left her uncertain as to whether or not she would be able to carry a baby to full-term.

 | | Miracle Conversion Shannon Kowalson - Thursday, November 06, 2003
My name is Shannon Kowalson (previously Mueller) and I am a member of the Winnipeg Church of Christ in Canada. Irony is what characterizes my conversion to Christ -- the irony of a prideful person who was sure she knew what she needed and wanted. Through people and circumstances God showed me otherwise.

 | | Train Crossing Barb Trawon - Tuesday, October 21, 2003
"Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90: 12)
It has been said that the "comparison of a train versus a car is like a car versus a soda can" (Operation Lifesaver, Currents, 20 October, 2003). Certainly this news is of very little surprise to us; when we hear of this type of collision, we usually do not expect car passengers to live, let alone walk away from the accident with barely a scratch- yet this is precisely what happened in August 2003 to our dear brother June Capulong and his young (and only) son Daniel.

 | | Winnipeg HOPE Barb Trawon - Wednesday, December 31, 2003
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." (James 1:27)
The recent HOPE dinner this December was a great success. Dr. Frank and Stephanie Bovell did another outstanding job coordinating and organizing this yearly dinner, together with Winnipeg's Pregnancy Distress Family Support Services. Over one hundred parents and children were entertained and fed a full Christmas dinner- perhaps the only one they would have this season. The entire congregation gave financially to make this happen; as well, about twenty members were able to volunteer their time the day of and during the event. Special thanks as well go to David Jung, Minister of the Winnipeg Church of Christ, who has encouraged the church to remember the needs of the poor on a year- round basis.
