Romans: Grace and Truth: Lessons 1-8
Roger Lamb - Friday, August 01, 2003

The need of the hour is the Word of God.  Recent events in our fellowship of churches has revealed an intense need for more depth in our understanding of our own salvation by grace through faith.  Perhaps that is why so many are having such a hard time dealing with past hurts and extending forgiveness to others.  When we experience our own forgiveness at the foot of the cross and the mouth of the empty tomb, we are compelled to share it with those around us.

Paul wrote the letter to the Romans to help the Jewish and Gentile Christians understand their lostness before Christ and their salvation in him.  This is perhaps the most complete explanation of basic Christian doctrine in one book in the Bible.  And who is better to write it than the Jewish leader who lived in all good conscience before God while persecuting Christians, was knocked off his high horse by Jesus, called by the Holy Spirit to become the apostle to the Gentiles, saw himself as the chief of sinners and eventually wrote most of the New Testament.

Published here is an outline and a power point presentation for study of the letter to the Romans.  This series was developed for use in a midweek class from an original presentation by Gordon Ferguson who wrote the excellent book Romans:  The Heart Set Free (DPI)  Studying the Bible with the help of this book and this outline will gain any seeker a deeper understanding of grace and truth.

For the next four weeks, UCD Study Tools will be posting two lessons per week.  Enjoy for your personal Bible study, share with an online friend or use it for your Bible Talk or midweek studies.

Perspective is a curious thing.  If I put my nose on a blackboard and draw a circle of everything I can see, the circle seems very large.  However, the farther I step back, the smaller my former circle of vision becomes.  Our daily lives are often the size of the blackboard circle.

Easter week in about 30 AD was the most important week of all time.  To help us step back and take a different perspective, UCD will post a short thought each day on what was going on in this week of Jesus' life nearly 2000 years ago.  That week changed the world forever.  Today Jesus has the same power to change the rest of our days forever.  Join us each day this week as we follow him to the cross -- and out of the tomb.

Chapter from Tom Jones' Book, "No One Like Him"
Sunday, December 22, 2002

Jesus' words force us to make a choice. I am sure you do not have much trouble figuring out which side I have come down on. Had I decided that he was a wild-eyed crackpot or a nasty fraud, I am afraid I would not have found much inspiration for a book, at least not about him. It is hard for me to imagine another human being saying what Jesus said. There are times when the whole story sounds too incredible. Yet the more I have looked at him, the more true I have decided that he is. ...
