There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
In July 2000, the NET World Sector (NET) was formed with the purpose of providing a means for every disciple to reach out and touch the lives of people around the world. The NET stood for New Media, Exceptional Children, and Technology. Specifically, New Media's primary mission was to develop an internet portal, UpCyberDown.org (UCD), in order to build an online community and to deliver good news from our churches located around the world. With UCD, churches, both big and small, were able to easily build and maintain websites and tell people what God was doing in their ministries. Another UCD milestone was starting UCD mail, which provided disciples with free "filtered" email to over twenty-five thousand users.
As many of you know, the events of the past year have had a significant impact on disciples and churches all over the world. Although we continue to believe that UCD is a powerful tool, its value and its role as the voice for the Kingdom has been diminished by the decrease in worldwide unity. On a more practical level, the NET cannot operate without adequate funding from churches around the world. As a result, the NET will discontinue operations. This will also affect the operations of UCD since it is a part of the NET. As of June 30, 2004, UCD and UCD mail will discontinue. However, churches that use UCD to build and manage their websites will continue to do so because we still believe that the web can be used to change the world and lives. Please read the following details below for more information.
Lastly, we want to thank all the countless volunteers, content editors, webmasters, designers, and others that were involved with making UCD great. It is our belief that the current fog will eventually dissipate, and that God will make his purposes clear. In the meantime, each one of us needs to focus on building God's church in his or her own city.
